Whale of a Day

The first Saturday in July usually has this sign up by our house. It’s a sign of our ” Whale of a Day” street fair. Our “Amity” gets vendors up and down the Main Street, and the proceeds benefit scholarships for the local high school.

It usually is a quick walk for me, especially on a day like today. The humidity is brutal. The flip side of this? There are tons of water, water ice, ice cream, smoothie and other vendors that have lines out the door.

On a serious side, Townbank, in the 1600’s was a village for whaling boats. Thus, the “Whale of a Day”. It is tied in to the Fourth of July, so they knew folks would be in town with money to spend. I got some kettle corn for the house, dog treats for Kasia, a bottle of water and earrings. I don’t buy things that advertise where we are, as I live here. I am happy to support the fair and check out the vendors.

It would just be nicer on a day 20 degrees cooler!
