Time for the Trainer

My trainer turned 10 years old this year. Hard to believe!

She has worn out tufts of hair on her legs and on one of them, she had been picking or hitting at it. I have to keep my girl in good shape, so we went to the vet this afternoon. She also was due for a booster shot so we turned it into a two-fer. In order to make sure she stays healthy and there is no infection on her leg, Kasia needs antibiotics for two weeks. I decided to give it to her tonight with dinner. It’s incredible how you can almost hide things in food.

I am blessed to still have her. I appreciate her every day she’s here. I know Kasia wasn’t too happy with me, in that she had to go to the vet. Hey, I need my trainer in good shape!

Slacker

Kasia is muttering “Slacker” under her breath at me. We had two days where walking was giving us roughly 10,000-15,000 steps daily, but not today.

She is on week one of two weeks of medicine from the vet, and she is still hobbling, albeit not as badly as she was. As for me, my muscles are aching from all this walking, so we determined this is a down day for us.

The weather has picked up, so we are walking more, Kasia seems to realize that we are going further each time. I laugh because sometimes she turns to look at me, as if sayin,” Mom, are you feeling ok?” When I wouldn’t be feeling well I would tell het that Momma isn’t feeling well, especially if my back was flaring up.

I figure, working slowly so neither of us gets hurt, that we’d be able to walk down by the bay by June. Maybe we’ll walk further by the end of September. My key is to make Kasia and I healthier. We’ll do it one day at a time.

The Kasia-girl

My girl, aka Hobbles McGee, is hurting.

Did you hear a noise? As I typed that line, my heart sunk a little. She officially is a senior citizen. She has arthritis.

She has been hobbling on the right side, and the vet said her elbow is inflamed and her lower spine is too. I really felt bad when the vet says to me she’s going to do ” senior” bloodwork on her.

Senior? My baby?

Now Zush had arthritis, but she left us at 15 1/2. Kasia isn’t there yet. Both my girls had glucosamine daily. Today, Kasia got canine fish oil added to it. It feels like yesterday she was just a baby. I savor every moment with the Kas. Here’s hoping she feels better soon.
