How Dry I Am….

First batch of this year’s tomatoes

It has been extremely dry down here at the “Undisclosed Location.”

Bad enough time of civil unrest and COVID-19, unemployment, social distancing, and idiots who are down here without masks, but we are really dry. The last significant rain was during tropical Storm Fay. Cities on the Jersey coastline have a better chance at major precipitation than we at the bay do.

Kasia and her fur coat have been having a rough time along with me during the heat. I keep trying to work her coat down to make her comfortable. We have been getting our walks in, but running back in to get in air-conditioning.

My gorgeous Gerber daisies are virtually non-existent in this heat. I really didn’t get a chance to buy many, due to COVID, and the few I did buy aren’t fans of this heat.

So, it’s back to vegging out now for both Kasia and myself. We are patiently waiting for a cooling front to come through.

Oh, for October……

“Weather” or not

Kasia has been working me out with our walks. Tomorrow the weather is due to be unsettled, so we made sure we got long walks in, because tomorrow is Halloween. Unfortunately it’s due to be stormy for my local trick-or-treaters.

Tomorrow would have been the Halloween parade in school, but because of the weather forecast, the festivities in school are being held on Friday. I was on the hook, one way or another, as I’ll be substituting for second grade for the end of the week. It seems that teachers dress up, so I’ll be dressed as a scarecrow. I’m sure it’ll be an experience I’ll never forget.

School has been pretty good. I have been busy working and I love every moment of it. I am glad to have second grade this week. It is a great class, and with a good teacher, it’s easy to step in and run with the ball for a little while.

Have a wonderful Halloween!

My Trainer, Kasia

Thanks to meeting up with a neighbor and Lexi, his fur child, we went down to the bay this morning. Instead of floral shots this morning, I get to share these pictures with you.

It was delicious, the breeze coming off the bay this morning. As we are a few blocks back, well, the humidity often has us with air-conditioning on. At 7 am, there was a slight breeze off the bay that made the walk quite pleasant.

The slight specks on the horizon were ships 🚢 heading up Delaware Bay. This morning shots of the bay were , indeed, with a sky that blue. No filter needed with the superb day, started with good exercise to boot. Now we are back in, so I can get a few things done here. You don’t mind it when you get to start your day with this view.

Dreary Tuesday, but…

We had a 7am walk this morning, and, if I must speak for the both of us, it was a good one. It, however, was overcast, and is due to stay that way all day. Kasia, taking a cue from a pup acquaintance in Wisconsin, said,” Good day for a nap.”

I am intrigued by the fact that I am eating from a summer menu; that is, I am making a ton of salad and lighter fare. Again, work has come between us and the dietician again, but I am not worried. Common sense has helped me drop a few more pounds. It’s a good thing, too. I had a Ortho appointment yesterday for a ” mild” case of cellulitis. Evidently, with hardware in your knees, it doesn’t take much to attract bacteria to your system. A gnat bite, something as simple as that can get you. The first time I had it, down here, my doctor said it’d be an asset for the hardware to drop some weight. Well, evidently, catching it early, along with ” the stars in alignment, got me the mildest treatment. Two and a half weeks of antibiotics, hopefully, will take care of it. Two summers ago, I took levequin until, what seemed to me, when the cows came home.

So, summer is doing ok so far- I am hoping it stays that way!

Summer’s Back

My Girl Kasia

We had company over the the weekend, so now, it’s a Kasia and Mom morning. We are getting back to our schedule, as Mom does the laundry and walks Kasia to keep her on her schedule.

We had a beautiful weekend with low humidity. The air has been delightful and the windows have been wide open and the air-conditioning has been off.

Not today…

We were up early so before the humidity crawled up too much, we had a good walk in. We came back so both of us can have our breakfast, and then I get to start my chores. I am just not looking forward to walking for about 5 minutes outside and then feeling like a wet washrag.

Ugh…I know I am as hot as she is!

Stay cool and hydrated if you are in the same boat as Kasia and I are in. Most importantly , enjoy the company of your friends and family.

After all…it’s summer!

“Weighting”Patiently

Our dietician appointment is a week from tomorrow. We had to move it, because I had a chance to work that day at school. While school is still on, it goes without saying, that I jumped at the chance.

We are still writing our food and carbs down. Jim is going still crazy for variations on menu. Me? Well, I am still losing, albeit slowly. I am trying to eat for the rest of my life, not being hungry, moving and exercising, but hey, I still want to lose slowly.

It is hard now that it’s getting hotter, to enjoy a good walk with Kasia, but I “keep on keeping on.” I am trying to adapt my wardrobe to work with my weight loss. I am so tired of buying smaller clothes and then having to buy larger clothes. I promised myself “No more,”

I have found Breyers’ carb smart fudge bars for 70 calories and 3 carbs. I am looking forward to that, as I sorely miss my ice cream. Embracing salads, especially in the heat, is something I have no trouble with.

Once school is over, I need to get our home ready for visitors. Flowers are planted, as are veggies, I think it’s safe to say that summer has not officially entered from a calendar standpoint, but it is officially here in “Amity”.

Lemonade, anyone?

Summer Storms in “Amity”

You know how I joke about “Undisclosed ” here being “Amity”, as in the film “Jaws”. With thanks to my nephew Greg, we have a few photos here to give you a feel for the place,

Especially during this current stretch of weather, you really can believe it is, indeed, Amity.

Try running to a market for something you need? Nope- line is too late long. Need to batten down the hatches during a severe thundershower? No way, as visitors are clogging the roads.

I still would not give up my little slice of heaven here. I get to enjoy it once Labor Day is done.

Slacker

Kasia is muttering “Slacker” under her breath at me. We had two days where walking was giving us roughly 10,000-15,000 steps daily, but not today.

She is on week one of two weeks of medicine from the vet, and she is still hobbling, albeit not as badly as she was. As for me, my muscles are aching from all this walking, so we determined this is a down day for us.

The weather has picked up, so we are walking more, Kasia seems to realize that we are going further each time. I laugh because sometimes she turns to look at me, as if sayin,” Mom, are you feeling ok?” When I wouldn’t be feeling well I would tell het that Momma isn’t feeling well, especially if my back was flaring up.

I figure, working slowly so neither of us gets hurt, that we’d be able to walk down by the bay by June. Maybe we’ll walk further by the end of September. My key is to make Kasia and I healthier. We’ll do it one day at a time.

Winter Storm Petra

Kasia and I went out for our morning’s walk. I have Accu-Weather app on the phone,so it gives you a pretty blouse time as to when the precipitation is due.

After a hard morning’s walk, my girl was beat.

You can actually see 1/2 ice and 1/2 snow on Kasias’s fur. We both like candidates for Head and Shoulders

Here’s hoping tomorrow is awesome bit better.

Welcome Back, I think

Trying to get all my photos lined up only to have the web host say there is no room has been quite frustrating.

The sky that has been pretty decent is promising to turn into something different tomorrow, resulting in something looking like this:

So I figured out what better time to try to get some readers back. I actually lost one of my strongest supporters. Jeanne passed away last week at either 92 or 94-I can never remember which.

So for those of you who have stuck with me, thanks. I appreciate it!
